Hyakumeizan 百名山
Description
百名山
The so called Hyakumeizan, or 100 Famous Mountains, is a list of the "best" mountains in Japan, compiled in 1964, by Fukuda Kyuya. It's a bit like the Munro's in Scotland. And like the Munro's, people get challenged to climb as many as fast as possible. There are many more mountains in Japan. So nowadays, lists of the 200 best mountains and 300 best mountains can be found. whatever you think about it, these lists offer a neat way of organising our chaotic universe. A bit like an address book of the Japanese Mountains.
