With the construction of a road on both sides of the Annapurna massif, it is questionable if tourists will continue to flock onto the classical Annapurna Circuit. For those who do not want to give up hiking the Annapurna massif, there is a challenging alternative: the Tilicho Circuit. This is not so much a trek, but rather a serious mountain hike, needing good equipment, porters, guide and acclimatisation.
From Jomsom the trail follows the Annapurna Circuit across Thorung La pass (5416 m). The trail descends into the Manang valley. From Manang enter the side valley towards Khangsar and Tilicho Lake, a well known trail. This mountain lake at almost 5000 m height, is at the foot of the Great Barrier. From the lake descend in a westerly direction towards Jomsom. From Jomsom you can catch a flight.
A strenuous and demanding hike, crossing several passes over 5000 m.
