On the island of Sjælland (Zealand), not far from Kopenhagen, one can make a circular hike. The trail follows an attractive route around two large inland Fjords, cut off from the Kattegat by small streets. These are the Roskilde Fjord with its myriad of islands and many birds, and the larger Isefjord. In summer, the Isefjord often suffers from oxygen depletion.
The Fjordstien tries to stay close to the water so one has a varied experience of the landscape.
The trail is for cyclists (Regional Cycling Route 41) and hikers alike. Most of the time hikers share tracks with cyclists. At some places the trails diverge, and hikers follow there own path. This combination of hiking and cycling trail does not mean that one walks on hard tarmac; the path surface is usually made of soft natural material.
Around the Fjords are situated many villages and cities, offering opportunities to find a bed, and of course there are many little camp sites along the trail created specially for the hikers and bikers.
