The Lodsstien or Pilot Trail is not very long. From the point of history and nature the Lodsstien is very interesting.
The Lodsstien or Pilot Trail runs from the city of Randers along the Randers Fjord to the Kattegat. Long ago, the melting of large amounts of ice created this fjord. The water is not very deep. Men deepened it to a few meters. Still navigation was tricky, due to tidal streams and the limited width of the navigable gully.
Back in the 19th century, pilots were installed by government. They went aboard near Udbyhø, navigated the ships to Randers, and walked back to Udbyhø. This trail is now used for our Lodsstien, wherever the track still exists.
You will walk on dykes, near salt marshes, pass through reed swamps, cross very old forests, and finally touch on the low coastal cliffs.
The trail is part of the North Sea Trail.
