The area southwest of Oslo is characterized by forest. We use the name Vestfold here, but actually this is only a part of the region. Other parts where hiking is possible are Skrim and Luksefjell. The whole area is known as Telemarken, and Vestfold offers a typical view of this region.
Rarely the land rises above the treeline. Therefore, you will hike in the forests most of the time. Now and then, the trail gains some height and views will open.
This is not a well known area for hiking, but because the area is relatively populated – Skien, Kongsberg - a hiking infrastructure has been created. The huts are of the unstaffed type. You must carry your own food.
