Worcester - Shoreham-by-Sea, 615 miles, 990 km, 7 weeks
Google says it's only a 144-mile walk from Worcester to Shoreham-by-Sea. So how could a King be that lost in his own country? King Charles II was escaping from the Parliamentarians led by Cromwell. He fled north, then due south reaching the Channel, than east again till Shoreham-by-Sea from where he took sail to France.
A group of historically motivated enthousiasts tried to recreate the King's escape in the fields of our days, 350+ years later. The trail is marked in places, but the complete route is present on the OS maps and in three guidebooks.
The trail is not only for those interested in history and grieving the Royal defeat, but also nature lovers: it is crossing the Cotswolds, Mendips and South Downs.
