The trail of trails of Canada: a long green corridor, multi-use recreational trail, crossing the entire continent from east to west, about 18,000 km in length (some say 21,500), making it the world largest recreation trail.
The trail follows examples in both America (East Coast Greenway) and Europe (Euro Velo routes). Although primarily intended for hikers and bikers, other users are welcome too. It largely depends on the region. A part of the trail makes use of old rail lines, and especially these sections are suitable for hikers. Other parts are open to even all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiling players.
The responsibility for establishing and maintaining the roads is a regional issue. Existing trails have been put into the scheme. In many places this was not possible, and then new trails have been constructed. Another attractive idea is to build trail pavilions at regular intervals along the trail, but the existence and quality of these shelters varies from region to region. The path is still not entirely finished, but most of it is done.
