Not only is Pokhara the starting point of the popular Annapurna Circuit, but also of the much beloved trek to Annapurna Sanctu-ary. The first days, this trail runs along the Modi Khola river, and you will pass several villages. Higher up, the valley becomes more tranquil, although finding a place for the night is still easy enough. Eventually you are led into the heart of the Annapurna Massif and reach Annapurna Basecamp at just over 4000 m altitude. Look around and you will see Annapurna I (8091 m) and the photo-genic Machhapuchhare. Particularly attractive about this trail, is the possibility to combine it with other trails in the region, for in-stance with the climb to Poon Hill, to form a more or less circular trek.
